Mona Lisa 855
A Meeting of Two Visionaries Across Time
Mona Lisa 855 is part of Mona Lisa Project, a twenty five year artistic journey by Dutch artist Florentijn Bruning. Through 963 artworks, the project explores the evolving visual language of humanity, placing the timeless image of the Mona Lisa in dialogue with different artistic movements, cultural shifts and ideas.
This work enters into a conversation with Hilma af Klint, the Swedish artist whose visionary abstract paintings transformed the possibilities of modern art long before they were fully understood. Her symbolic language, rooted in geometry, colour and spirituality, continues to inspire new generations of artists.
Rather than recreating Hilma af Klint's work, Mona Lisa 855 reflects on her artistic legacy. The familiar face of the Mona Lisa is reimagined within an abstract visual world that honours curiosity, intuition and the courage to explore new ways of seeing.
Within Mona Lisa Project, this portrait becomes a meeting point between two artistic journeys. One rooted in Renaissance portraiture, the other in the birth of abstraction. Together they remind us that art continues to evolve while remaining connected to those who came before.
