MONA LISA 813
The Digital Evolution of an Icon
Curator's Note
Part of the ongoing Mona Lisa Project, Mona Lisa 813 explores the relationship between identity, cultural continuity and contemporary life. Every artwork within the project reflects a unique moment in time, together forming an evolving artistic practice that has been developing since 2001.
About this Artwork
Mona Lisa 813 explores the meeting point between tradition and the digital age. Inspired by cultural heritage, ceremonial adornment and contemporary society, the artwork reflects how identity continues to evolve without losing its roots.
The portrait combines timeless symbols with one of the defining objects of modern life: the smartphone. Rather than presenting technology as a disruption, it becomes part of the visual language of everyday existence. Ancient traditions and contemporary culture are not portrayed as opposites, but as two realities that continue to shape one another.
The restrained colour palette, ornamental floral patterns and balanced composition create a sense of calm, while subtle contemporary references firmly place the portrait within the present. Mona Lisa 813 reflects the idea that cultural identity is never static. It grows, adapts and continues to evolve with every generation.
Created as part of the ongoing Mona Lisa Project, Mona Lisa 813 represents one chapter within an expanding body of work exploring identity, cultural memory and the evolving relationship between humanity, art and technology.
