MONA LISA 782

The Digital Evolution of an Icon

Curator's Note

Part of the ongoing Mona Lisa Project, Mona Lisa 782 explores the relationship between identity, environmental memory and contemporary visual culture. Every artwork within the project reflects a unique moment in time, together forming an evolving artistic practice that has been developing since 2001.

About this Artwork

Mona Lisa 782 reflects on the traces humanity leaves behind. Inspired by fragments of plastic collected and photographed along the Mediterranean coastline, the artwork transforms discarded materials into symbols of memory, responsibility and renewal.

Rather than presenting plastic solely as pollution, Mona Lisa 782 considers it as evidence of human existence. Just as archaeology reveals past civilizations through fragments of stone and pottery, future generations may come to understand our time through the materials we leave behind.

Within this composition, the familiar face of the Mona Lisa becomes a quiet observer. She does not judge or condemn. Instead, she invites reflection on the relationship between beauty, consumption and the lasting impact of human activity on the natural world.

Created as part of the ongoing Mona Lisa Project, Mona Lisa 782 represents one chapter within an expanding body of work exploring identity, cultural memory and the evolving relationship between humanity, art and technology.
